Ajani B. Husbands

Founder & Director

Host, “Blacklight Africa Podcast”

My focus on supporting African entrepreneurs and startups began with a documentary I filmed just after grad school, in 2007. I wanted to showcase community-led solutions to address local needs in the Mamelodi township of South Africa. It’s a simple concept that’s far more commonplace now, but at the time, few institutions in the west were focused on African-designed solutions. That documentary, coupled with my fixation on disabling the status quo foreign aid model as an approach to Africa, led me on a path to search for ways to highlight entrepreneurs and investors who are deeply engaged in brilliant, fascinating, and innovative endeavors across the African continent.

This ideology is the foundation of Blacklight Africa. Through the 100 Early Stage Africa Startup Report (#100ESAS) and the Blacklight Africa Podcast, the goal is to connect African entrepreneurs with the funding and resources to help their visions grow.
